Hampers Under $50 That Do Not Look Like It
Under $50 is where most gift lists live. Kris Kringle, a thank you, a teacher, a neighbour, the twelve people at work you like but do not know well. It is also the price point where the difference between a good gift and an embarrassing one is most obvious.
Here is what the money actually buys, and what to look for.
What separates a good cheap hamper from a thin one
It is rarely the number of items. A box with fourteen tiny things in it reads as padded. A box with five good ones reads as chosen.
Something that outlasts the food. A wooden board, a mug, a candle, a tea infuser. One durable item changes the whole read of a gift, because it is still in the house in March.
Recognisable rather than generic. Named products beat unbranded filler. People can tell.
A sensible amount of packaging. A small box that is full looks better than a large box that is half air. Shredded paper doing structural work is the giveaway.
One thing that is clearly the centrepiece. A bottle, a board, a decent chocolate assortment. Gifts without a focal point read as a collection of oddments.
What under $50 will not buy
Worth being straight about. At this price you are not getting champagne, spirits, or a large multi-bottle hamper. If you need one of those, the honest move is to step up to the $60 to $100 band rather than buy a thin version of the thing you actually wanted.
What you can get is a genuinely good single-focus gift, and that is usually the better present anyway.
The picks that hold up
All in stock at the time of writing, all in our $30 to $60 band.
If they drink
- Gourmet Red Wine Hamper. A bottle of Sage Hills Shiraz with Mediterranean olives, artisan flatbread and savoury nuts. The most reliable gift on this list for someone you do not know well.
- Gourmet White Wine Hamper. The same idea with a Barrel & Vine Pinot Grigio, which is the easier bottle in summer.
- Celebrate Shiraz & Chocolates Gift Box. A bottle and a chocolate assortment in a magnet box. Simple, and it presents well.
If they do not
- Gourmet Cheeseboard Hamper. Olives, quince paste, peanuts and crackers on a wooden board. The board is the reason this one punches above the price.
- Ultimate Tea & Biscuits Hamper. Three Opulent tea blends with a cup and infuser. A genuinely useful gift rather than a consumable one.
- Love You Beary Much Hamper. Alcohol-free, with chocolate and a teddy. Better suited to someone close than to a colleague.
For a snack table or a shared office
- Sip & Snack Gift Hamper. A drink with savoury nibbles. The safe default when you know almost nothing about the recipient.
- Merry Christmas Gift Sack. Shortbread, chocolate almonds, party mix, honey popcorn and rock candy, all alcohol-free. The one to reach for if the gift is going to a shared desk or a family, and it works as a Kris Kringle gift.
- Mini Snack Gift Box. Pretzels, peanuts, party mix, chocolate almonds and shortbread. The smallest thing here that still feels like a present.
For a pamper gift
- Vitality Pamper Hamper. Body wash and soap with bath salts and Belgian truffles.
- Reset Mini Moment Gift Box. Bath salts, a candle and rose soap. Small, and it looks considered.
If food is the wrong call
- Mini Christmas Snack Gift Box. Alcohol-free, and the smallest thing here that still reads as a proper gift.
- For allergies or a dietary need you are unsure about, a food-free gift sidesteps the problem entirely. The pamper options above do that, and there is a guide to gifting for dietary requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Buying several at once
If this is a list rather than a single gift, two things make it easier.
Pick one gift and repeat it. Buying twelve different $45 hampers takes an afternoon. Buying the same one twelve times takes five minutes, and nobody compares. The exception is anyone who will open theirs next to someone else's, where you want two options at the same price rather than one obviously better gift.
Choose an alcohol-free equivalent at the same price up front. Any list of more than about twenty will include someone who does not drink. Deciding that at the start is far less work than fixing it after the order goes in.
For work lists specifically, there is a guide to what to spend per person on a staff gift, and gifting to a team of 10, 50 or 200 covers what changes as the list grows.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a minimum order? No. One or two hundred, the same range applies.
Does a cheaper hamper come in cheaper packaging? No. The presentation is the same across the range, which is most of why these hold up at the price.
Can I send them to different addresses? Yes, in a single order. That is what our multi-address shipping is for.
Is a gift card better at this price? Sometimes, honestly. There is a guide to when a gift card is the right answer.
