Ways To Improve Employee Performance
From start ups to big business there are some things that all work places have in common. One of them is understanding employee productivity! A motivated and productive employee will produce great work whilst spreading their positivity throughout the office, an unmotivated employee can be destructive and demoralising. Read below our top tips for harnessing those good vibes and improving employee performance!
Get to know everyone
As much as you would love for your business to run like clockwork, the reality is that different individuals work in different ways. One employee may be extremely analytical, and another may be very visual. No matter their learning or working style, if they are a good employee, you want to retain their best work. Rather than enforcing a strict set of procedures, getting to know each individual will allow you to tailor their work experience very slightly and make sure they are always doing their best.
Let them set their own goals and KPIs
This may sound crazy but hear us out… we don’t mean each employee setting their own KPIs to strategically not do a lot of work. Instead we mean inviting your employee into the conversation so that they understand the how and the why. Including them in the discussion of how much work they need to do, what they need to be achieving, and why they have the goals that they do, allows them to feel heard and a part of the discussion, rather than a follower.
Create a productive work space
Similar to our first point, it is key to get to know your individual employees and understand what kind of environment is conducive to them producing their best work. Whether it is whiteboards, post-its, project management software or simply a hang out area, make sure you are providing the tools that make your employees happy and ready to work.
Recognise & reward
Remember, it is the carrot, rather than the stick, that drives your employees. Even as a small start up you don’t need to set aside thousands for pay rises and bonuses to bribe employees. It is as simple as verbal recognition of hard work and praise that will make an employee feel grateful and wanted! A shout out in a meeting, or voucher for a coffee, can be the deciding factor between working hard or hardly working.
